Introduction

  • The United Arab Emirates is a major oil producer and exporter. In 2012, the country produced an average of 2.8 million barrels of crude oil per day, the eighth highest total in the world.
  • According to Oil & Gas Journal estimates, the UAE holds the seventh-largest proved reserves of oil in the world at 97.8 billion barrels, with the majority of reserves located in Abu Dhabi (approximately 94% of the UAE's total). The other six Emirates combined account for just 6% of the UAE's crude oil reserves, led by Dubai with approximately 4 billion barrels. The UAE holds approximately 6% of the world's proved oil reserves.
  • The UAE holds the seventh-largest proved reserves of natural gas in the world, at just over 215 trillion cubic feet (Tcf).

BP awarded 10% interest in Abu Dhabi’s ADCO onshore concession

SNC-Lavalin Awarded Contract With Abu Dhabi Company For Onshore Oil Operations

  • SNC-Lavalin Inc. (TSX: SNC) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), to provide a front-end engineering design (FEED) study for Phase 2 of the Qusahwira Oil Field (additional 25 thousand barrels of oil per day of production).

    The Qusahwira Oil Field is located approximately 260 kilometers south of Abu Dhabi and covers an area of 7,525 square kilometers. It is part of the South East Asset, which contributes approximately one-third of ADCO’s daily production. The development of Qusahwira is part of ADCO’s strategy to increase crude oil production by 2017.

    Work has begun at SNC-Lavalin’s offices in Abu Dhabi, Mumbai and Toronto.
