Introduction
- Tunisia is a minor player in the hydrocarbons field unlike neighbouring Algeria and Libya
- National oil production is currently around 95,000 bbl/d. 76% of the total oil is produced from six main concessions : El Borma, Ashtart, Ouedna, Adam, Didon and Miskar; the remaining is produced from 29 other small concessions
- National gas production in 2007 about 6 MNm3/d. It comes mainly from Miskar Gas Field (southern offshore Tunisia : 4.5 MNm3/d), and other small fields namely: El Franig/ Baguel/ Tarfa gas fields and Oued Zar/Hammouda, Adam, El Borma, Djebel Grouz and Sabria oil fields (associated gas)
- National Hydrocabon remaining reserves are currently estimated at 838 million boe of which :
- oil : 425 million boe (51%)
- gas : 413 million boe (49%)
History
- 1963 - Bizerte Refinery begins operations
- 1996 - Production begins at the Miskar Gas Field
- 2006 - The Oudna Oil Field came on stream
- 2009 - Production began from the Hasdrubal Gas Field
Regulation
- The sector is regulated by the 1999 Hydrocarbons Code
- The «Entreprise Tunisienne d'Activités Pétrolières» (ETAP); a state-owned industrial and commercial company, created by the law N°72-22 of March 10th, 1972, is responsible for the management of oil and gas exploration and production activities on behalf of the State.

Active Companies
- 57 international and Tunisian oil companies are involved in 54 exploration licenses
- BG Group is the largest producer of gas in Tunisia, supplying over 60% of Tunisia’s domestic gas production through the Miskar and Hasdrubal operations
- Lundin Petroleum holds two operated licences in the Gulf of Hammamet, offshore Tunisia
- Eni's operations are concentrated offshore in the Mediterranean in front of Hammamet and onshore in the desert area to the south of the country.

Midstream
- ETAP together with ENI & OMV plan to build the South Tunisia Gas Project (STGP) to transport gas from production to consumption areas
LNG
- There are no LNG terminals in the country
Downstream
- Tunisia has one small refinery, the Bizerte Refinery, with a capacity of 35,000 bpd
