Ongoing Projects

  • With the project of modernization, the Mohammedia refinery will become a complex refinery with a factor of 14 nelson complexity
  • The modernization of the Mohammedia refinery incorporates all the latest technologies and processes more efficient in refining.
  • This project, which began in September 2005, is part of the overall program to modernize the Mohammedia refinery, which has been the subject of the Investment Agreement signed December 20, 2004 between the Moroccan Government and SAMIR.
  • The overall budget is estimated at over 1 billion U.S. Dollars.

  • Replacement of old Distillation Units
    • SAMIR and the Spanish company Tecnicas Reunidas signed Tuesday, July 29, 2008, a contract worth 17 million euros, on engineering studies and design of the proposed replacement of old distillation units (Topping 1 and 2) the Mohammedia refinery, a new unit (Topping 4) with an annual capacity of 4 million tonnes.

History

  • SAMIR has operated a topping refinery at this site since the first crude unit was installed in 1959.
  • 1963 - Refinery expanded by 28,000 bpd
  • 1976 - Bitumen Blowing Unit, Solvent De-asphalting unit commissioned
  • Since then, two more crude units, a vacuum unit and a lubes train have been installed to bring the refinery up to its current 6.25 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) crude capacity
  • 2009 - Contract signed for new bitumen plant
  • 2010 - Refinery upgrade project completed
