- The terminal is currently an import terminal, for details see Sabine Pass LNG Terminal
- However due to the surplus of natural gas in the USA, the terminal is to be expanded to add export capabilities.
- The project is expected to be completed in 2015
- Project cost is budgeted at $6 Billion
- The terminal will utilise ConocoPhillips Optimized Cascade® technology
- Bechtel will design, construct and commission two liquefaction trains

- 2012 - BG Group reached agreement to purchase an additional 2 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) over a 20-year period
- 2012 - Cheniere and KOGAS Sign 20-Year LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement for 3.5 million tonnes per annum
- 2012 - Blackstone Enters into an Arrangement for $2B Equity Investment for the Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project

- If completed as planned, it will be the first LNG export terminal in the USA, outside of Alaska
