  • A Renewal Project is now under way which includes:
    • A new, more efficient hydrogen plant with the capacity to supply other Bay Area refineries as well as Chevron.
    • Equipment improvements to enable the refinery to process higher-sulfur feedstocks with a reduction in sulfur emissions.

History

  • 1902 - Refineries operations began with a capacity of 1000 barrels per day
  • 1992 - The Richmond plant also completed the first of two cogeneration projects to produce electricity and process steam
  • 1999 - A major explosion occurred in the Hydrocracker
  • 2012 - An explosion and fire occurred at the refinery
  • 2013 - The California Division of Occupational Safety & Health fined Chevron $1 million for the fire
