Ichthys Gas Field

Summary Information

  • Operator: Inpex
  • Country: Australia
  • Location: The Browse Basin, Western Australia
  • Production start: Expected in 2016
  • Partners: INPEX 76% and Total 24%
  • Type: Gas & Condensate
  • Estimated Reserves: 12.8 tcf of gas and 527 million barrels of high value condensate
  • Production Volume:

Description

  • Gas from the Ichthys Field, in the Browse Basin approximately 200 kilometers offshore Western Australia, will undergo preliminary processing offshore to remove water and extract condensate.
  • The development uses a central processing facility (CPF) and the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facility
  • The CPF is the largest semi-submersible in the world
  • The Ichthys FPSO vessel has 1.2 million barrels storage capacity
  • The gas will then be exported to onshore processing facilities in Darwin via an 889-kilometer subsea pipeline.
  • The Ichthys LNG Project is expected to produce 8.4 million tonnes of LNG and 1.6 million tonnes of LPG per annum, along with approximately 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak.

Contractors

  • Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME): Construction of FPSO hull
  • Samsung Heavy Industries: Construction of semi-submersible platform
  • Technip: Detailed engineering and procurement assistance for the topsides facilities
  • McDermott: EPCI and pre-commissioning of subsea structures and equipment, umbilicals, risers and flowlines, CPF and FPSO anchor mooring systems
  • Saipem: Gas Export Pipeline
  • ABB: Main electrical contractor (MEC) for the semi-submersible central processing facility (CPF)

History

  • 1998 - INPEX acquired the petroleum exploration permit WA-285-P, located in the Browse Basin
  • 2000 to 2001 - Three exploratory wells resulted in the discovery of an extremely promising gas and condensate field
  • 2006 - INPEX transferred a 24% participating interest in the Ichthys Project to Total
  • 2012 - McDermott Awarded Ichthys Subsea Contract
  • 2012 - Technip awarded topsides contract
  • 2013 - SHI starts construction of semi-submersible platform
  • 2015 - Topsides integration started
