Overview:
Petro Star Valdez is the newest refinery in the United States with state of the art equipment, instrumentation and emission controls. The refinery processes 60,000 bpd of ANS crude and produces Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel, Commercial Jet Fuel, Military JP-8 and JP-5 Jet Fuel, Marine Diesel, Home Heating Oil, Turbine Fuel. Recent modifications include addition of a 12,000 bpd Distillate Hydrotreater, Hydrogen Plant and Sulfur Recovery Unit. Valdez, Alaska is a historic community of approximately 4,500 people located on the northwest side of Prince William Sound. Few places offer the majesty of the Chugach Mountains rising from the water, or the diversity of activities to be found in a seaside mountain town. Position:
Operations Director supervises refinery unit operations and all associated personnel to ensure safe and optimal production for Crude Distillation Unit, Distillate Hydrotreater Unit, Hydrogen Plant, Sulfur Recovery Unit and associated utilities and storage facilities. Responsible for unit safety, regulatory compliance, operations staffing, production scheduling, product quality control, refinery inventory control and product truck loading. Develop annual operating and capital budgets and ensure adherence to budget requirements. Ensure regulatory compliance, testing and reporting is accurate and timely. Work closely with Process Safety Management group to ensure proper training and safety goals are met for facility and all operators. Direct quality control program and review production reports. Demonstrate committed leadership by working closely with shift supervisors and operators to trouble-shoot technical issues, ensure adequate staffing and promote safe, effective operations. Act as liaison with TAPS, product distribution manager, local agencies and Petroleum Terminal. This is a hands-on management role.
Education and Requirements:
BA or AA degree in engineering or science. Formal training in OSHA, PMS safety regulations, project management and in line supervision. Must have at least fifteen (15) years of experience in related refinery operations, engineering and/or refinery supervision combined. Minimum five (5) years operations supervisory experience in distillate hydrotreating or other petroleum catalytic process. Must have experience from a refinery of similar size and be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge in all areas of operation. Need knowledge of control systems and instrumentation. Must be able to use process engineering skills to quickly troubleshoot and direct corrective action. Pass DOT/PHMSA pre-employment drug test and occupational health exam. Need valid AK driver’s license or ability to obtain if relocating. Operations Director must reside in Valdez area and be able to respond to emergencies within reasonable period of time. NOT a rotational job.
