The Project

  • Project Type: Major Upgrade
  • Project Summary: The project is designed to improve the refinery's complexity, through the addition of a Flexicoker, Hydrocracker and other units.

  • Vacuum Distillation Unit - 45,300 bbls/day
  • Flexicoking - Exxon Mobil - 20,050 bbls/day
  • Hydrocracker - UOP - 40,000 bbls/day
  • Hydrogen Plant - Haldor Topsøe- 120,000 m3/h
  • Sulphur Recovery Unit 2 X 140 t/d
  • Sour Water Stripper 120 m3/h
  • Amine Recovery Unit 280 t/d
  • Associated utilities and offsites.

Crude Supply

  • The share of heavy crudes processed will increase from 60% to 100%

Products Produced

  • The project increases production of white products at the expense of fuel oil.
  • It will address the shortage of diesel locally and regionally
  • Middle Distillate yield will increase to 75%

  • Aims of the upgrade:
    • Increase processing of medium- to highsulfur crudes: 60% 100%
    • Increase production of white products at the expense of fuel oil:
      • Light Products: 52% - 100%
      • Black products: 48% - 0%
    • Reduce emissions:
      • SO2: 642 kg/hr < 200 kg/hr
      • NOx: 92 kg/hr < 90 kg/hr
      • PM: 45 kg/hr < 20 kg/hr
