Crude Supply

  • Sweet crude is being sourced from African, South East Asian and Middle East countries like Nigeria, Iraq & Malaysia.
  • The crude is brought up to Haldia by Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) from where it is pumped through the Haldia-Barauni Crude Oil Pipeline.
  • The refinery is now capable of using sour crudes.

History

  • 1964 - Refinery is commissioned
  • 1969 - Capacity increased to 3.0 million tons per annum
  • 1987 - 500,000 TPA Delayed Coker & 50,000 TPA LPG Plant added
  • 1988 - Revamp to increase capacity
  • 1997 - Commissioning of catalytic reformer
  • 1998 - 60,000 TPA Wax Hydro-finishing Unit commissioned
  • 2003 - Major expansion and upgrade completed, bringing capacity up to 6.0 million tons per annum
  • 2007 - Axens awarded licence for Prime-G+™ unit
  • 2010 - Barauni Refinery MS Quality Upgradation Project completed
